教学目的

The teaching of the text aims to enable the students

1.      to understand the main idea;

2.      to appreciate the style differences between narrative writing and expository writing;

3.      to master the key language points and grammatical structures in the text;

4.      to conduct a series of reading, listening, speaking and writing activities related to the theme of the unit.

教学重点

与难点

1. Writing skill: writing an expository essay

2. key words, phrases and some useful sentence patterns “As much as, as many as, as is shown”.

Teaching method: lecture with pair work and group discussion

Time Allotment: Section A (4 hours) & Section B (2 hours)

The first four periods:

Step 1 Lead-in: (25 minutes)

1. Background Information.

2. Group Discussion:

Discussion Topics:

What the person who influences you looks like? Is there anything she/he said or did impressing you? How does he behave to others? 

Step2 Text Analysis of Passage A : (25 minutes)

1. Main Idea;

2. Text Structure Analysis: Three parts: Part One (1-3)---Part Two (4-6)---Part Three (7)

Teaching method: group discussion, students’ reporting or presentation

Step 3 Summary of the Text. (20 minutes)

Teaching method: pair work, students’ presentation

Step 4 New Words and Phrases. (90 minutes)

Teaching method: explanation through enlightening

Step 5 Difficult Sentences and Patterns (35 minutes)

Teaching method: explanation by way of enlightening

Step 6 Homework(5 minutes)

1)      do writing assignment;

2)      preview Text A of Unit 4; do the pre-reading task.

The last two periods:

Step 1 Check writing assignment and analyze the model writing. (30 minutes)

Teaching method: pair work, explanation

Step 2 Word building and translation. (20 minutes)

Teaching method: explanation, pair work

Step 3 Understanding the main content of Passage B. (50 minutes.)
